2010_05_20 Fort Davis Trip

Here's a link to our trip to Fort Davis and the Davis Mountains. Gary and I had such good time. Here are some pics. Lots of history in this town. It was a town where the pioneers got protection from the indians on thier way from El Paso to San Antonio. I would have never made it in those days.

Gary and Irene

Gary and I are taking a trip this weekend. We are going to Fort Davis up in the Big Bend country. I will post pictures . We keep hearing its so beautiful there. They filmed alot of westerns out there., like Lonesome Dove , Giant...No Country for Old Men.

Dad went back to his Arthritis doc. He got a shot of cortisone. He is hurting all over . They did bloodwork.. he wants back on Predasone. We'll see.

Let's all wish Dennis a very Happy Birthday today. 39? Is that right? I remember the day he was born...I was at school ..senior yr I think...and Eva worked in the school office and she came and told me Linda had her baby! I feel so old today! lol Happy Birthday Dennis!

Another Rita Update

Rita is home as of last night!! Yeah! She was dismissed yesterday evening from the hospital. She will have to follow up with her dr about her liver problems. They sent her home even though they could not drain all the fluid off her stomach. The Dr says they could not reach the fluid safely because she has so many pockets in her stomach...too much scar tissue and other "stuff" in the way. She went home with a walker to help her get around. So for now, she is doing ok.

Rita Update

Rita says they will release her to go home tomorrow. They drained some fluid from her lung today and are supposed to her give her 2 units of blood.... she continues to be very anemic. Rita seems to be feeling better and and doesn't seem to be as uncomfortable as she was. That's all the news I have for now.

Rita

Well for those of you who don't already know, Rita is in the hospital now. I was headed to her house yesteday to take Kirk to his dr's appt when they called and said Rita was seeping fluid from her belly that was already so swelled up. So I took Rita to the emergency room and Eloise and Gilbert took Kirk to his appt. After spending almost 9 hours in the emergency room Rita was finally admitted and is still there. She was taken to radiology this morning and they drained some fluid from her stomach. She has some fluid on her lungs and they will attempt to drain more fluid again tomorrow. Meanwhile, Kirk seems to be healing well and will be wearing his back brace for 2 more months. He did get a "green light" to drive again so that will help them out some. No answers on why Rita continues to swell up with fluid. Hopefully, someone will be able to let us know something soon. She is comfortable...no pain really. I know she will be relieved to get all that extra fluid off her body. Please keep Rita and Kirk in your prayers. It is sad to see both of them "down" at the same time. I will try to keep you updated as we get new info.

Cindy Crawford at My Hospital

Since we are in the celebrity sightings mood I'd thought I would share one!  Today Cindy Crawford was at my hospital on the 10th floor pediatric unit (I'm on the 7th floor).  Although I didn't actually see her, one of my friends who also works there took this picture of her.  She is here for the huge Rooms To Go SuperStore Grand Opening in Katy and part of the proceeds are going to our hospital.  She supports children's health charities or something like that.  Of course she sells her furniture at Rooms to Go in case you didn't know.

Night at Round Rock Baseball

Pamela, Tom and I attended the Round Rock Baseball game last night.
Pam's employer has a suite at the stadium so we joined Pam and her friends.
We partied next to Will Ferrell and his friends in their VIP suite very near ours.
I tried to get some close up photos of him but everytime he stood up, all those in that suite surrounded him and they all were taking their own pictures, they blocked the view.





Anyway, in the 5th inning the announcer said RO-JO Johnson was going to relief pitch. He came out on the mound and threw one pitch and picked up his budweiser and took a drink. That is when the crowd realized it was Will Ferrell aka RO JO JOHNSON.


Will Ferrell led the 7th inning stretch song as well.

This past Thurs one of Abilenes motorcyle officers had an accident during the lunch hour. He was pursuing a speeder and a car pulled out in front of him . He died from injuries sustained when he hit a van parked on the side of the street. I was out and about and heard the sirens and saw the ambulance. He hits hard in a community like this . It was a very sad day here in Abilene . All three news stations carried the services on air...His wife was a customer of the salon I work at . Just sad...

American Idol

So Lindsay and I went to the A Idol taping yesterday evening. It was so exciting. We actually didn't get in the first group of people so we were seat fillers, which turned out to be better. Lindsay got to be in the pit right by the stage by the Idol contestants and I was in the 5th row behind Randy Jackson and the judges. I was so close to the stage which is much smaller than it looks on tv. Got to see Cameron Diaz very close up when she went to greet the judges during a break...she is beautiful....so was Kara. Ellen was very tiny...much smaller than I thought and Simon and Randy ...well ...just like they look on tv. LOL Rascal Flats and Shakira were the only live performances during the show ...the others are prerecorded. Then after the show we got to stay for a taping of Lady Gaga's performance...that was quite a production! I'm guessing that will be shown at a later date. It was a long afternoon and evening but so interesting and exciting to watch. I was so excited that Casey James was saved for another week! So, now on to my next destination.....Vegas!!!

Spring in Texas

Went to KC yesterday . Mom was having a good day . Dad was tired ... he was digging up some stopped up plumbing. I am beginning to think that house has too many repairs for them to keep up with them . I wish there was a way ..
We had lots of rain this spring... as you can tell... bluebonnets in full force and the grass (weeds) are green .

Hi everybody!

I just realized I didn't officially wish my MOM a happy bday on here. But, I talk to her about 10x a day haha, texting ppl, we're not that bad! I am sure she's told everyone, but she's coming here and were going to see American Idol. I don't watch it, but she does and it will be fun! Then we're headed to Vegas (we love it there if you didn't know) for a few days. No clubs, just spa, pool, dinners. You can find her on the slots! See ya later! Lindsay

Hi everyone!  Here are some pictures of our new home in Houston!  We live only 5 minutes from the lake which Justin love and the neighborhood is very family friendly.  We have great neighbors so far and 12 kids on our cul-de-sac. We are excited to be homeowners and are enjoying making our house a home!  Come visit us in Houston we have plenty of room!

Another Kirk Update

Just wanted to let everyone know that Kirk is at home as of yesterday. Home Health Care will be coming out to evalute their situation today. Kirk is in a back brace and will be very limited as to what he can do. They will be in a bind since Rita doesn't drive anymore. Please continue to keep them in your prayers.

Kirk Update

Hi everyone...just wanted to give you an update on Kirk. I didn't update yesterday so Theresa could have her day on the blog. Anyway, Kirk is in a room now ...room 487 (Harris Hospital). He says they may be sending him home on Monday. He is still in bed and has not been up. Well, he stood up Friday afternoon for an x-ray and passed out ....so there you go. He tried to stand up yesterday and said the pain was really bad. He has a hard shell back brace that he calls a turtle shell. I believe he will require Home Health Care and physical therapy when he goes home. He can hardly turn over in bed without help. He is in good spirits and is anxious to get home but I know they will be in for a long recovery. We have yet to speak with any of the Dr's...we never seem to be there when they make their rounds. His phone # in the room is 817-250-2487.

Kirk

For those of you who don't already know, Kirk is in the hospital. I thought we all learned a lesson from Eddie about getting on ladders and being safe ....but NOOOOOOOOO! haha Kirk was helping a neighbor trim a tree when the big branch hit the ladder with Kirk on it and of course he came down too. He has a burst fracture of his L1 disc in his lower back and a sprained and scraped up elbow. I talked to Rita last night and the neurosurgeon recommended just a back brace for him. We were concerned that he would have to go with the back surgery. He is in Harris Hospital but is in ICU Trauma so he doesn't have a phone in his room. I will keep you informed about his progress. Please keep Kirk and Rita in your prayers.

Last night I was browsing my Picasa pictures and I came across this picture and I remembered it was Tax day the next day and I remembered it was also Pammy's birthday.
