Pig show

Okay since the blog is alittle idle at this time I decided to put something on. Today in Hawley we had our city show. Roper showed his three pigs. If you noticed in the picture all the pigs look alike. This is the Hampshire class. A judge judges them by the way their body mass ...and what thier ham looks like. These kids get these pigs around Oct. and start feeding them and then in Jan . we show them at the city, county, and on to the San Antonio Livestock and Rodeo Show, FT. Worth,& HOUston . It is our hobby and we really get into it. Then at the big shows they get weighed and put on the BIG TRUCK to become your bacon and ham . Ofcourse I cried last year ...maybe Iwon't this year but I doubt. it. Oh by the way u do get a check for whatever pigs are going for a pound. Anyway this is what we are busy doing at this time of the year. It keeps us busy and the kids learn responsibility: these animals have to be fed everyday , twice a day, and pens cleaned out as well. Gotta go watch the COWBOYS.

Christmas at Irene's

Well here we are at my house. It was mostly about the COWBOYS here at my house and it was not a very happy one after the game. We didn't even get a pic of Roper , Sylvia and Rich, and Gary and I cause the game took over Christmas. The couple below is my dads brother Lewis , and wife Aurora from Abilene.

Sylvia is Retired!

Sylvia is officially retired.
Friday, we enjoyed a retirement celebration at Lockheed Martin. We met all of Sylvia's co-workers and ate lots of good food. What a send off she had...yesterday was also the first flight of the F35 Joint Strike Fighter that Lockheed is building. Rudy and Eddie, you would have loved it, it was awesome. We enjoyed it....we were so lucky to have been there for that. We got together at Rita's house yesterday evening and just visited.(well we ate again!) Irene has some pictures she will probably put up when she returns to Abilene. Happy Retirement to Sylvia!

ROPER

Here is Roper last nite in Haskell. He was elected Vice-Pres. of the FFA Double Mountain District. (which includes towns from around the area, Haskell, Stamford, Rotan..etc) He is Sec. of his local chapter. Mom met me in Haskell to see him do his speech, as u see him doing in the second pic. Oh yes the short blonde is Phillip Newtons daughter, from Haskell. Mrs. Newtons grandaughter, and one more girl is Keith Rowans daughter from O'Brien.
The election included an interview, a quiz , and then the speech. The girl who won pres. beat him in the quiz and interview, He beat her in the popularity vote. The interviews were done by people from Texas Tech. The jackets really look good when they are all together. So much for my " shy" Roper. FFA gives out over a million dollars a year in scholarships.....that's our goal. Oh yes : FFA stands for FUTURE FARMERS OF AMERICA ---But it's really more about leadership skills.

Light to Unite

Did you know that 1 out of 5 people who are HIV infected are Hispanic?

Today, Bristol-Myers Squibb, the pharmaceutical monolith that charges nearly $1,000 for a 30 day supply of one of its HIV/AIDS medications, is donating $1 to the National AIDS Fund for each person who simply visits their website and "virtually lights a candle." The tally is near 900,000 now.

Please take a minute to "light a candle": www.lighttounite.com

SUPERBOWL CHAMPION

Hello everyone! Well, I realize the last time I put something in was the beginning of football season. Here is the picture of the end...Joey's Bantam Seminole team won the superbowl on Dec 2nd. They outscored their opponents 535-26 for the season. Joey was part of a great offensive line! This pic shows the apple doesn't fall far from the tree...even though it's Martinelli's!

I saw her today and she looked much better AND she is starting to eat again! We know she is better when she is eating! haha The hospital number is:

RITA

Just wanted to update everyone on Rita's hospital stay. The doctor decided to keep her for a couple of days. She has a kidney infection and the antibiotics are slowly working. We all know her immune system has a hard time with any infections. When I left tonight she was not feeling well...fever and chills. Poor Rita...let's everyone pray for her speedy recovery. Hopefully her fever broke and she got to watch Mario and Emmitt dance tonight!!! She was really looking forward to watching that. Let us all be thankful for our health and for our family as we approach the Thanksgiving season.
